About Scottish Author and Illustrator Mandy Elizabeth Rush

Hello and welcome! I’m Mandy Elizabeth Rush, a Scottish author, illustrator, and designer based in Nairn, a picturesque town on Scotland’s stunning Sunshine Coast. From the rugged landscapes of Wester Ross, where I once lived in Melvaig, to the peaceful shores of the Moray Firth, the beauty of the Scottish Highlands and Islands has been a constant source of inspiration throughout my life and creative career.

About Scottish Author and Illustrator Mandy Elizabeth Rush Mandy reads her books at the Ness Book Fest. Read all about it here.

From a young age, I was captivated by the magic of storytelling, and it wasn’t long before I realised that my love of drawing and writing would intertwine into a lifelong passion. Whether it’s creating vibrant illustrations or penning tales that evoke the wonder of Scotland’s rich heritage. I find joy in expressing the stories that live within me. My work is heavily influenced by my experiences in Scotland and my travels. I blend the ancient and the modern, reflecting the country’s diverse history and culture.

Alongside my creative pursuits, I’m a firm believer in the power of quiet, written communication. Though I’m not one for phone calls, I thrive in the written word—whether that’s through letters, blog posts, or emails. Writing allows me to fully immerse myself in my characters and worlds, and I love the thought of a story finding its way into someone’s heart through the pages I’ve created.

Time for a Story about Mandy Elizabeth Rush

When I’m not writing or illustrating, I’m likely behind a camera, capturing the world around me. With over 30 years of photography experience, I’ve had the privilege of seeing my work showcased in a range of media, including the BBC Countryfile Calendar, where one of my photos, Diamonds at Dawn, helped raise millions for charity. I’ve travelled extensively—from teaching in Kenya to the vibrant streets of Central America—and I document these journeys on my Wee Wild Adventures blog. Where I share stories and photographs from the places I visit. You can also follow my travels on Facebook and TikTok and YouTube.

I am always excited to take on new book commissions. Whether it’s for children’s stories, illustrated books, or any project that requires unique and engaging illustrations. As an author and illustrator, my goal is to create work that not only entertains but also inspires. Fostering a deeper connection to the land, people, and history of Scotland. I invite you to explore my portfolio, follow my adventures, and join me as I continue to create stories that reflect the beauty and spirit of my homeland.
